Larkshine had summoned Orchidpaw to follow her out to a shallow spot in the marsh. Once they reached the slightly muddy opening, Larkshine turned to face her apprentice. “Alrighty Orchidpaw, today we are going to put our claws to use! I want you to attack me.” She mewed as her golden eyes narrowed and she dropped down in a defensive position.

Orchidpaw had been excited, being led out into the territory with Larkshine. She hadn't told her what they were going to be doing today. She stopped in her footsteps when the warrior turned to face her, and she blinked in surprise at her request. "What?" She mewed quietly in surprise. Attack my mentor? She thought. The idea felt foreign, unsettling - but she knew there was a lesson buried under this exercise. She nodded, watching her mentor drop into a defensive stance. "Okay! You better watch out, though! I'll win!" She mewed confidently.

Orchidpaw didn't hesitate or think. She immediately rushed towards Larkshine, headbutting her flank as she had done with Virtue moons ago. After she made an impact, she desperately swiped at her mentor's side.

Orchidpaw used Headbutt and Desperate Blows on Larkshine, doing 8 (4 + 4) damage and costing 12 (5 + 7) stamina.

Larkshine chuckled at her apprentice’s confidence. She huffed as Orchidpaw’s head made contact with her flank followed by a few paw swipes to the same area.“Good! Confidence is a great trait to have when in combat but remember not to be too confident.” Her tail swept behind her as she swatted her apprentice on the shoulder. “If you’re overconfident, you might underestimate your opponent. If you’re under confident, you might as well hand the battle over to your opponent.” Larkshine spoke sternly but her expression was soft.

Larkshine took a step back, “Again!” She instructed the apprentice with a smile. Orchidpaw reminded her a lot of herself, and she saw a lot of potential in the young molly!

Larkshine used Front Paw Blow for -5 HP and -5 SP

Orchidpaw nodded as she listened to her mentor's advice, her eyes clear and focused on Larkshine. She was already planning her next attack. She locked her gaze onto her mentors - not wanting to give away her next move.

With a tail flick to acknowledge what Larkshine had said, she sidestepped and then rushed towards Larkshine's flank - biting down hard on her tail and then yanking. Kits in the nursery did this a lot - maybe it'd work on warriors, too?

Orchidpaw used Tail Yank, doing 7 damage and costing 15 stamina. Larkshine is stunned for one turn.

Larkshine was slightly taken aback when her apprentice yanked her tail instead of slamming into her flank. “Good Job Orchidpaw! You made me think you were doing one attack and you did a different one instead. Smart move!” She mewed as she smacked her apprentice in the shoulder once more. “A few more times and we’ll call it a day, how does that sound?” Her golden eyes shimmered as she smiled at her apprentice.
