"The weak never have their wings unfurl."
Silverhawk T3 Warrior | ShadowClan | he/him
Thin tendrils of mist wrapped around the bases of hunched, half-grown trees. The nighttime air was still crisp, chilled despite the changing seasons. It'd been a few days without rain and the ground was, thankfully, as dry as it could be in ShadowClan. Silverhawk wouldn't expend the energy--mentally and physically--to lead this venture if the weather was poor. No; he needed it to be nice. He needed this to be nice. There was a dull ache in the back of his head, threatening his mood and the sanctity of their excursion. Silverhawk ignored the pulse. The remnants of his childhood grief were not going to ruin this night, and he was not going to make a fool of himself in front of his siblings by expressing it.
Silverhawk's whiskers twitched and he looked ahead. Against the drab grays, browns, and blacks that made up the marshland's palette, there stood little pops of color: flowerheads. Pawfuls of them, bobbing gently in the breeze, beautiful and stark where they stood in the dreary world. The earth from which the flowers grew was smooth now; no longer churned, freshly undug. Silverhawk slowed to a halt, clenching his teeth until his jaw began to creak.
When the tightness in the muscles grew too much, he expelled the pressure from his mouth with a sigh. Silverhawk stared after the waving flowers for a few moments longer before turning around to face his siblings. He was grateful none of them were busy tonight so they actually could accompany him; and equally grateful that his request to walk together hadn't been denied. "Alright," he said quietly, tone sober. "I asked you all to come with me because I have something to show you. ...to tell you about." He looked between his siblings again, meeting each pair of eyes in turn. "Is everyone ready?"

Hedgepaw had seen her older brother in many moods; she'd seen him happy, angry, worried, frustrated, exhausted. Never before had she seen him look so sorrowful and pensive as he did while he led her, Fernpaw, and Wolfpaw to some place of the territory. He hadn't exactly been straightforward about where they were going. But not only would Hedgepaw follow Silverhawk anywhere, there was no way she could refuse when he looked at her like that--obviously, whatever this was, it was important. It meant something to him. So she followed dutifully behind, plastered to her brothers' sides, letting the warrior lead them out. Cool night air caused her dark pelt to fluff up, but she hardly noticed it. Where were they headed, anyway? What did this all mean?
There. Finally... flowers. Hedgepaw's wide, glowing eyes locked onto the tiny blossoms of color, so vibrant in the foggy marshland. Newleaf really was here, then. She'd wanted to see flowers so badly and now here they were. It felt like a gift. This area was so pretty... and so quiet. She didn't want to move. But when Silverhawk spoke, she tore her gaze away to look at him instead. Why did he sound so... somber? Her ear twitched. Obviously he had some reason. Once she learned what it was, then she could help him not feel sad, she hoped. So the small brown-furred apprentice nodded. "I'm ready."

Wolfpaw Apprentice | ShadowClan| he/him "You don't believe me? You will. You will become a true believer."
Wolfpaw had initially thought he was being dragged out of his nest for more sparring, or something. And then that notion had been wiped away by the presence of his siblings, and Silverhawk seemed so... Out of it. He had made it his business to take up the rear, as always. Sometimes, he would step more forward to reassure Hedgepaw if she turned with that face she had, or if a bush rustled weirdly.
He did not recall a place in the territory with all these flowers that he visited frequently. They were... Nice. He watched them bob back and forth for a moment in the night air, and there was a stillness in his mind. Not quite heavy, and punctured clear again as his brother spoke. Important? His tail tip twitched nigh imperceptibly, and he bowed his head in between a gap in his siblings. He did not speak, but rather kept his eyes fixed on his brother. Less scorching, as his amber gaze usually was. Embers, a flick of warmth.

Fernpaw
logical : independent : curious : reserved
he/him : shadowclan : apprentice
Fernpaw had been waiting for a spare night like this. A night when the sky was as clear as his schedule, and he could spend his time doing whatever he wanted. Specifically, he had planned to explore the southern side of the territory to its completion. He would have studied the most abundant prey in the area, noted the flora they ate, and scouted their dens. But his plans changed when the older tom Silverhawk requested the company of him and their other siblings. Normally the apprentice did not prioritize clanmates over his research unless important. However, when asked where he was going, Silverhawk did not explain much. Now that their expedition involved mystery Fernpaw became much more eager to follow his brother in search of answers.
The long, quiet walk was too long not to know, but he was determined to remain patient. The white-flecked tabby immersed himself in the sounds of animals chirping deep in the forest, shortly grieving for missed opportunities. If only he were in there with them. Then Hedgepaw's side pressed deeper into his, ever-present, and redirected his mind. What is she thinking about? he wondered. She's likely as curious as I am. Fernpaw's tail gently curled around hers. We will both find our answers soon enough.
Here? The tom fought the urge to tilt his head once Silverhawk stopped before a patch of wildflowers. Excellent bait for rabbits, but there was rarely rabbit scent in this territory, nor did Silverhawk seem intent on hunting. Why? What do you have to show us? What do you need to tell? Fernpaw met his brother's gaze with deep green eyes holding an equal amount of confusion and intrigue. "I'm ready," he said in unison with Hedgepaw.

SILVERHAWK
The darker the weather...
Silverhawk met each of his siblings’ eyes in turn. Quietly, with respect to the sobriety he portrayed, they all agreed. He almost wanted to be cross with them for it. He wished just one of them had expressed disinterest, unwillingness, anything; just something to spare him from the pain and indignity of his speech. But… Silverhawk looked between them again--Hedgepaw, Wolfpaw, Fernpaw, lucky enough to live were several others had not--and nodded. He found he was always weak for his family. For better or for worse. Sighing through his teeth, he dipped his head again before turning away to face the set of flowers. The gravesite. He padded over to them and sat down, tail swishing to invite them to come closer and observe the blooms with him.
”I don’t know if Pineblossom or Forestbreeze have told any of you about him,” he began once they’d gathered around, ”but they used to have another son, before me. His name was Honeylight.” The back-and-forth motion of Silverhawk’s tail turned into curling self-comfortingly around his paws. He squeezed his teeth together tightly, sucking a breath in through the wall they made. Already, he could feel the headache starting to creep in. He wanted to rake at his neck, the usual uncomfortable habit, but he refrained. ”And this… this is his grave.”
The purple, pink, and white flowerheads bobbed in the wind as if they were nodding, encouraging Silverhawk along. I wish you could see them. His expression pinched with the thought. He had to screw his eyes shut for a moment before continuing. ”He was… he was a bright cat. He had the brightest smile. So nice, to everyone.” Silverhawk made himself smile, but it was tight at the edges and clearly forced. He turned to blink toward his little sister in particular. ”You especially would’ve liked him, Hedge,” he said with a soft laugh. ”But… I think you all would’ve. He was the kind of cat… where it’s just hard not to. Like them, I mean.
“He took to me as a brother right away, after Pineblossom took me in. He… really loved me.” The words felt like a physical blow to his head, but Silverhawk continued as normal. ”Honeylight was my mentor, before Pineblossom. Until…” Silverhawk lowered his head. He was quiet for several moments, silently paying respect to the dead. He hoped Honeylight forgave him. ”We encountered a fox one night, while on patrol. He died defending me from it. I had to carry him back to camp.” It took biting hard on his tongue to repress the shiver that wanted to race down his spine. Silverhawk would never forget the weight of Honeylight’s large body, the way his muscles burned with every step, how the dawn sun stung his eyes.
”I wish you all could have met him. He was a good cat. A really, really good cat.” Silverhawk closed his eyes again, remaining like that for a few moments before he finally turned to face his siblings once more. ”But… that’s all I had to say. I just wanted to bring you all out here to meet your brother. I thought you deserved to be introduced to him, even if he… he isn’t around anymore.”
